Internet Security
When it comes to internet security and the modern society we live in today, it is so important that individuals, companies, and businesses have protocols and steps in place to keep their information safe. With the amount of time, we spend on the internet combined with the fact that all most all aspects of life can be handled online, it is very important that our identities are protected. Certain little things like checking for secure browsers, doing research on the different apps and websites that steal your information, and putting good passwords in place are all things that can help keep your information safe. As our lives have moved more and more online, identity theft and fraud have become very popular in our society. This often takes place when people order products from fake websites and give information to people they don't know.
After reading Policy Brief by Internet society, I definitely was more informed on how big of a deal this is and was surprised to find out that there are no set laws on internet data protection. I think that laws need to be in place in order to protect information like social security, credit card numbers, and personal medical information. As seen all the time in society, when information like this is leaked or stolen it can create life-changing issues for people.
The last thing that I will discuss is the terms and conditions policy. Every time we download an app or us a new website, a list of terms of conditions is listed providing the information that this website will keep or be allowed to share. Often times we just click yes, and move on with our lives. Most of the time we are not realizing that we are giving these apps and companies access to aspects of our lives that we would never want to be exposed to. I know for myself after reading about this information, that I will be doing a better job reading through terms and conditions to protect my online information as best as possible.
Something that I find very interesting that everyone on the internet has probably encountered, is when I am looking to purchase a product online and it starts showing up all over my devices. This is a technique that the company uses by using your search history and putting ads for these items all over your screens so you are more prone to buy them. The link below dives into the importance and background of this.
